Animal Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy for Your Pet
Animal physical therapy focuses on the treatment and care of animals with both acute and chronic conditions. In addition, the animal physical therapist is involved in rehabilitation following trauma, a period of reduced physical activity, or surgery. The physical therapist also provides preventive care, for example, for working dogs. For older dogs, the physical therapist helps slow physical decline through regular treatments and advice.
The veterinary physical therapist treats animals based on a referral from a veterinarian. The veterinarian makes the diagnosis and may have already worked with you to establish a treatment goal. However, if you have not yet seen a veterinarian, the veterinary physical therapist will contact your veterinarian immediately after the treatment.
Physical therapy treatments include exercise therapy, mobilization, and massage, among other things. In addition to the treatments, advice will be provided to promote recovery. You will also be given regular homework exercises to do with your pet at home.
