You can now enter your male dog in competitions anywhere in the world!
As a breeder, you know what a challenge it is when your female needs to be bred, and the male of your choice lives in Austria, southern Germany, central Sweden, or even farther away. It usually means a few days of travel, hotel expenses, and often a few days of unpaid leave—if you can even get time off from work at all! For many breeders, this is a reason to look for another male dog that lives a little closer.
Foreign breeders who would like to use your male dog face the same problem!Manyback out because they don't have the time, or because it's just too much trouble.
We have now gained a great deal of experience here at the clinic with inseminating female dogs using “fresh-chilled semen” from male dogs from abroad. The results have been good, which is why we also offer this option to owners of male dogs.
The process is basically simple:
- The owner of the female dog abroad has informed you that his or her dog needs to be bred.
- You can make an appointment with us to have your male dog’s semen collected. Of course, these are always very last-minute appointments, but that’s no problem for us. After discussion, we can also accommodate weekend appointments.
- After collection, the semen is diluted with a special buffer and cooled to approximately 5 degrees Celsius. Afterward, the semen retains its fertilizing capacity for at least four days—long enough to reach any location in the world. The “fresh chilled semen” package is shipped via courier service.
- The female dog’s owner takes the package to his or her veterinarian (who must be willing to do this on the weekend). The veterinarian then ensures that the diluted semen is properly activated and warmed, after which the female dog is inseminated.
- If necessary, this procedure can be repeated after one or two days, just as with natural mating.
- You will receive the package ready to go and will need to arrange shipping yourself through a courier service. The costs for this vary considerably, depending on the destination and desired delivery time. You can, of course, add all these costs to the stud fee and pass them on to the female dog’s owner.
All things considered, it will be much cheaper for the dog’s owner than if he or she were to come to you, and you’ll be done after just one or two visits to our clinic.
