Sometimes it is necessary to admit an animal to the clinic for a short or longer period of time

Admission of Your Pet
Although we strive to send animals home as soon as possible after treatment, it is sometimes necessary to admit an animal to the clinic for a short or longer period of time. This includes animals that have undergone major surgery, or animals with severe and/or extensive injuries that require a great deal of care, as well as animals that cannot be kept at home—or are difficult to care for there—because they soil their surroundings, such as in cases of severe diarrhea, blood loss, or incontinence. Animals on an IV cannot go home, and animals that require complete bed rest—for example, after orthopedic surgery—are often admitted to the clinic.
During the animal’s stay, we, of course, check its temperature, take it for walks, and feed it at regular intervals. We do everything we can to make the animal feel as comfortable as possible, but ultimately, the goal is to have the animal return home as soon as possible.
Rest for sick and recovering animals
We make a conscious effort to keep visits to hospitalized animals to a minimum. On the one hand, because work at the clinic continues as usual; on the other hand, because a visit (and especially leaving at the end of that visit) can really upset the animal. It’s better to call us every now and then to check on how your pet is doing. And if something out of the ordinary happens, we’ll of course contact you.
