Stool Test
The stool test examines the following:
- Color, amount, odor, and consistency (solid or loose)
- Blood contamination, mucus contamination
- A small amount of stool is placed in a saline solution, after which parasites (including worm eggs and coccidiosis) can be detected under a microscope using the flotation method. Worm eggs and parasites float to the top of the saline solution and are then easy to “capture.”
- A Giardia infection can be detected using a Snap® test.
- In addition, various digestive tests can contribute to research on the functioning of the intestines, liver, and pancreas.
A stool test often leads to a diagnosis, but additional testing is also frequently necessary.
