ECG
The electrocardiogram, or “heart tracing,” is an important part of a cardiac evaluation, alongside the clinical examination, X-ray, blood tests, and echocardiogram. The ECG is performed while the animal is lying on its right side. If the animal resists too much, sedation may be necessary. The heart’s electrical activity is measured using a number of electrodes placed on the animal’s skin. The ECG provides a wealth of information about the conduction of electrical impulses in the heart, the condition of the heart muscle, and any arrhythmias.
