This method can simply be described as a treatment using (laser) light, which is often used for various chronic diseases, inflammations, neurological problems, and skin conditions. It often has a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect. We have now performed several treatments, and the results and feedback have been extremely positive. This treatment has been in use since 1970, but is now also available for pets. We use the Companion Therapy Laser for this purpose.

The name says it all: laser therapy is a treatment that uses laser beams. Because this process involves projecting these light beams—with a predetermined energy level and wavelength—onto the tissue, it can produce a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect. The light beams contain so-called photons (laser light particles) that are absorbed by the body and then release energy to the surrounding cells. In the case of damaged or inflamed tissue, this extra energy can help normalize or even repair the cells in that area.

We often use laser therapy after surgery to prevent pain and swelling at the wound site. In addition, it is used with great success in the treatment of numerous acute and chronic conditions, such as:

• Orthopedic conditions: osteoarthritis, back pain, tendonitis

Laser therapy consists of one or more sessions. Anesthesia is not necessary because the treatment is painless and well tolerated by the animals. During treatments involving the head, the animal—as well as the practitioner and the owner—is provided with protective eyewear.
