Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease caused by increased pressure from the fluid in the eye

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a disease that affects one or both eyes and is caused by increased pressure from the fluid inside the eye. The condition usually develops gradually and often leads to severe pain and, eventually, blindness. If detected early, the consequences of glaucoma can be effectively prevented. The condition is generally incurable but can be treated. A significant number of dog breeds (see below) are at a clearly increased risk of developing glaucoma. If your dog belongs to one of these breeds, it is advisable to have the animal checked occasionally. This can be done very easily during a regular office visit, for example, at the same time as the annual vaccination.
