Skin Problems
Skin conditions are among the most common health problems in pets.
A large portion of daily visits to the veterinarian involve skin problems. The causes of skin problems are very diverse:
- Skin infections and ear infections caused by:
- bacteria
- molds and yeasts
- mites (scabies)
- Allergic reactions, including the three most common types of allergies:
- flea allergy
- atopy (an allergy caused by environmental allergens, which are often inhaled)
- food allergy
- Hormonal skin changes
- Skin Tumors
Bacterial and fungal infections are very often the result of scratching, which in turn is caused by skin irritation from allergic reactions, which are almost always accompanied by itching.
